Online Sex Toy Shopping: How To Choose The Right Sex Toy

Sex toys can be confronting and confusing. Here, brand ambassador and sex expert Nadia Bokody gives advice on how to find the one that's right for you.

If you're thinking of investing in a sex toy, congratulations.

Research shows people who use sex toys enjoy more frequent, satisfying sex - both the solo and the coupled kind.

Choosing the right toy however, can be rather intimidating. With so many options, where should you begin? Here are the questions that will guide you to finding the perfect toy for you:

1: What do I want to stimulate?

Are you a woman who needs clitoral stimulation to orgasm, or maybe a man who enjoys prostate stimulation or anal penetration? Decide which areas you want to focus on pleasuring (and yes, you're totally allowed to choose more than one area!)

2: How hard do I want it?

The next question to ask yourself is the intensity of stimulation you prefer. Do you tend to respond best to light, teasing touch, or prefer more rigorous thrusting? There's no right or wrong answer here, it's all about what works for you!

3: How easily do I get bored?

This question is extra important when it comes to choosing a toy, because there are certain toys designed to repeat one or two basic stimulation styles and do them well, then there are others that offer 10 or more different functions. If repetition works for getting you to orgasm, you're probably better suited to a simpler toy. If you get bored easily, opt for one with more functions and settings.

4: Do I want to use this alone, or with someone? Or both?

Again, there's no right or wrong answer here, but knowing whether or not you plan on incorporating your new toy into your lovemaking will help you decide whether to opt for a solo style or couple's toy.

5: How new to this am I?

If you've tried toys before, stepping it up to a more intense and sophisticated toy can be fun, but if this is your first time investing in a toy, simpler is better. You need to give your body time to get used to the sensations before you step up to the next thing.

Ask yourself these questions while you're sex toy researching and you'll have a much easier time finding the one that's right for you.

Happy shopping, everyone! ;-)
